HYPNOTIC CONTROL OF EPILEPTIC SEIZURES
Alistair Campbell, Oakrise Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
The application of hypnotic procedures to neurological conditions is an area that seems to deserve further study. But, there is little published material on the use of such procedures in the common condition of epilepsy. This is despite some clear lines of research which indicate that psychological and social factors are important in the initiation and inhibition of seizures. A clinical case example of how hypnosis was used to help a client control her epileptic seizures is followed by a review of the research in this area. This appears to be an area that would be worthy of further study by both clinicians and experimenters interested in the management of epilepsy.
